In February of 2014, Columbia and Montour Counties will heat up with the Destination Blues Music Festival, "your winter blues heaven on Route 11." Organized by two non-profit organizations - Downtown Bloomsburg Inc. (DBI) and the Moose Exchange - the festival will feature local, regional, and national blues performers at multiple venues, as well as bus transportation among the venues and participating hotels.
Friday, February 7th, brings "Brews & Blues" - music all evening long at four area brew pubs: Old Forge in Danville, Berwick Brewing, Marley's and Turkey Hill in Bloomsburg. For $5 per person, attendees can ride among the venues and to and from their hotels.
On Saturday the 8th, "Bluesburg" - an afternoon and evening of music at the Moose Exchange, a landmark gathering place on West Main Street in Bloomsburg for almost 65 years. The menu of ticket choices will include the headlining national band, the six bands playing earlier in the day, bus transportation, and hotel rooms in both Columbia and Montour Counties.
Destination Blues could not happen without the collaboration of two of our area's longtime blues impresarios: Richard Briggs of the Briggs Farm Blues Festival and Bonnie Tailman of the Billtown Blues Association. The Briggs Farm and Billtown Blues Festivals have made summertime blues cool in central Pennsylvania; now Destination Blues will make winter blues HOT!
Destination Blues has received significant support from Montour and Columbia Counties' Tourism Funds as administered by the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau. The Exchange and DBI commend Montour Commissioners Trevor Finn, Jack Gerst, and Jerry Ward, and Columbia Commissioners David Kovach, Rick Ridgway, and Chris Young for their vision and enthusiasm.
